Longboard Decks? They come in all shapes and sizes.

So you’ve already been involved in longboarding for a while, and now it’s time to shop longboard decks.  Decks are very often a matter of personal preference; concave versus flat, longboard decks style, and deck art.

We’ve got a bunch of great examples that will hopefully help you in your journey to find the perfect longboard decks that suit your needs.  If you’re still new to longboarding, we do suggest that you shop longboards complete, rather then just the decks, as these include all of the parts you’ll need to start riding immediately.

Things to consider when you’re looking for a deck;

Concave versus flat: Generally, concave decks allow greater stiffness in the board.  In addition, if can help the rider feel the edges of the board.  However, while they are more stable, concave boards are not as snappy as flat boards are.

Stiffness: Flexible boards are, hands down, better for cruising.  They provide a more comfortable ride, and tend to be easier to negotiate.  These are excellent for someone in need of a cruising board, or for the beginner.  However, if you’re interested in downhill longboarding, you’ll need a stiffer board.  As a rule of thumb the stiffer the board, the higher speeds it is capable of (dependent on hardware).  Downhilling a flexible longboard is generally dangerous as the flex in the board may induce uncontrollable wobble.

Style: Style often comes down to personal preference.  However, there are a few things to consider.  Longer boards are generally better for cruising as well as downhill.  Long construction makes them more stable.  If you need maneuverability though, a shorter board this required.  Shorter boards are less stable than their counterparts, but they are easy to turn, and tend to be more still.  These are perfect for slalom.

Art: This is all you; if you’re spending money on a longboard, it helps if you purchase one that you like the looks of.  Make sure that you like the looks of what you’re getting; combined with all the other factors, you’ll be happy with your deck for a long time.
